During the month of October each year, the children at “Hinder them not” Montessori School learn a lot about Native Americans. We have many pictures of how they used to live here in our country. Our children learn Tribe names, make breast plates, head bands, drums and rattles. On "Native American Day" we have a party and eat the foods the Native Americans used to eat. We make corn bread, brown beans, wild rice with apples, and butternut squash. We sing Native American songs and dance Native American dances. The children color art and we have many interesting artifacts around the classroom. We even have a teepee in our classroom with items inside from Native American history, including real turquoise stones and dolls made from corn husks like the Native American little girls used to play with. It's a lot of fun.
